Although you may think you know what goes into hiring an orange county pest control company, there are steps that you need to take in order to ensure that you make the best possible decision. This is not something that you want to take lightly, as it is a big decision that could effect your property as well as your wallet.
No matter if you are hiring an Orange County pest control company for your home or a commercial space, you need to get serious about what you are doing. The decision that you make could be the difference between solving your problem and wasting a lot of time and money.
The first step in hiring a pest control service is to learn more about your many options. There are a lot of companies out there, however, not all of them are going to have what you are looking for. You need to compare more than one service in an attempt to find the company that is truly best for you and your current situation.
Moving on, don't be shy about calling an Orange County pest control company to tell them what type of issue you are facing. This is a great way to explain your circumstances to somebody who is in the position to provide you with high quality advice. Not to mention the fact that it will make it easier for you to make a decision in the future as to which company to hire.
Does the company have experience in the type of pest control that I need? This may be the most important question you ask yourself. It is essential that you hire a company that is going to give you the level of service you deserve, down to every last detail. You don't want to bring in a company that is unable to perform the task at hand with a high degree of success.
Of course, you don't want to overlook the price that you are asked to pay. There is a lot that goes into quoting a price. For this reason, you should not expect every company to have the same rate. You should compare a couple of quotes to make sure you are getting the best deal.
Finally, there is nothing wrong with reading reviews online before making a final decision. This is often times the best way to learn more about the companies that are out there, as well as the ones that are considered to be the best among others in your area.
If you follow this advice, you should be able to find and hire an Orange County pest control company that has everything you are looking for. When you put all of this together, you will end up with no more pests in the end - and that is just what you want.
Don't delay in hiring the best company for your problem. The longer you wait the more chance there is that the pests are going to continue to attack your property.

We know what you're doing ... the website that exposes your ill-advised Facebook statuses.
Hate your boss? Hungover after a big night? Don?t head to Facebook to vent your feelings.
A new website created by a British teenager highlights the dangers of revealing private information on social networking services.
We Know What You?re Doing exposes the compromising status updates of Facebook and Foursquare users who haven?t set their accounts to private.
?I?m getting so mad right now I hate my boss Jay I hope he dies better yet I feel like killin him,? says Anastasia R, while Thomas L announces that it ?feels great to be not hungover for first Friday in ages?.
Advertisement: Story continues below
WKWYD?s search tool scours Facebook and Foursquare for key words such as "hungover" and ?cannabis? and divides the findings into four categories: ?Who wants to get fired??, ?Who?s hungover??, ?Who?s taking drugs?? and ?Who?s got a new phone number??.
The so-called ?social networking privacy experiment? is the brainchild of 18-year-old web developer Callum Haywood. The British teenager's creation is proving incredibly popular. According to Haywood, the site has received over 400,000 visitors since its launch on Monday.
?I created the website to make people aware of the issues that are created when they post such information on Facebook without any privacy settings enabled,? Haywood told CNN. ?The people featured on the site are most likely not aware that what they post as ?public? can be seen by absolutely anybody, and that Facebook will happily give away this information to other websites via its Graph API.?
While those featured on WKWYD may be surprised to find themselves on the site, the web developer hasn?t used any published information that users haven?t already revealed publicly.
In a post on its website, computer security site Sophos claims that there?s ?nothing slimy or hackerish? about Haywood?s experiment.
Sophos also argues that the responsibility for potentially damaging status updates lies not with Facebook, but with users. ?At the very least, people have got to start paying attention to Facebook's privacy settings.?
Social media expert Jenna Price agrees. ?You need to be really careful of your online presence because it?s your reputation,? says the University of Technology Sydney academic. ?When you go online and trash your reputation, and you do it yourself, you?ve only got yourself to blame.?
According to Price, the public have been given countless warnings about the dangers of failing to protect their privacy online, but many have failed to heed the warnings. To Price, WKWYD? is using humour to deliver an important message. ?I think if it draws attention to complete abject stupidity that?s a good thing.?
WKWYD is not the first site to highlight the risks of oversharing online. Please Rob Me collated public check-ins from social networking services to announce when users would be away from home. Another social media aggregator, Openbook, makes it possible to search public Facebook status updates in real time.
By contrast to Please Rob Me and Openbook, WKWYD is careful not to reveal too many details about the people it features. Haywood only lists users by their first name and doesn?t link to their profiles.
There was some good news today for those who have been caught out by WKWYD. Haywood took to Twitter to announce that he will introduce a new feature tomorrow which will allow anyone featured on the site to request the removal of their post.
To avoid having your private thoughts exposed on WKWYD, Haywood recommends that users head to Facebook?s privacy setting ?and make sure Control Your default Privacy is not set to ?Public??.

A PDA cell phone or Smartphone offers ease of use and powerful features and capabilities for the business, or casual consumer. The PC-like functionality of PDA phones enables users to access and create email, documents, and the Internet all in one compact device. This past year has seen an explosion of innovative Smartphones from various manufactures, with distinct capabilities and operating platforms.
HTC launched a new Windows Mobile Smartphone, the HD2, which is a successor to the original HTC Touch HD. This phone features one of the largest PDA screens, measuring 4.3 inches. It is also the first Windows phone to implement a capacitive touch screen, similar to the iPhone display, which is used for fingertip control. The HD2 boasts a 5.0 megapixel camera with flash, a GPS receiver, and a standard 3.5mm headset jack.
BlackBerry also provided an update to their existing product line, updating the Bold 9000 to the new Bold2. This phone features better wireless access than the current BlackBerry, with better utilization of 3G coverage. The Bold2 switches out the familiar trackball with a Trackpad, which should be more responsive and sturdier. Like other BlackBerry phones, the Bold2 provides reliable and powerful messaging capabilities and boasts a vibrant color display.
The Samsung Moment is the company?s first Android device. The Android operating system runs on an 800 MHz processor, which makes the Moment impressively responsive. Some highlights of the phone are the exceptional call quality and gorgeous color display. For users who are invested in Google applications, the Moment allows for quick access to their Google calendar, email, and contacts.
Nokia presented a new phone, the Nokia N900, which is the first device to run Maemo, a Linux based operating system. The phone is noted for its smooth animations, easy setup, and crisp screen fonts. Another exceptional feature is the keyboard which is user friendly and less cramped than previous Nokia Smartphones.
The Motorola Droid is another cell phone which is based on the Android OS and sets the standard for other phones which utilize this operating system. The Droid is the thinnest phone with a QWERTY keyboard and the display is comparatively large at 3.7 inches. The design is markedly different from other PDAs and has an attractive angular feel. The mobile office applications are stable and highly functional, which allows users to work on files on the go. Also, the phone works well with multiple applications open at once, which is a huge benefit to heavy PDA users.
PDA cell phones are gaining more and more attention in the mobile market. Even casual cell phone users are purchasing Smartphones to help organize their busy personal and business lives.

MOSCOW (AP) ? Hackers broke into a prominent Russian opposition leader's Twitter and email accounts, sending his followers abusive messages.
Alexei Navalny's spokeswoman, Anna Veduta, warned his quarter of a million Twitter followers early Tuesday that the stream of nasty notes was fake.
Late Tuesday night, she confirmed that Navalny had regained control over his Twitter account.
"I missed you all terribly, and also life without Twitter is HELL," he tweeted. "You have no idea what is going on and you have to get your news from the INTERNET!"
Among other things, the hackers had written "Alexei Navalny is a crook and thief 2.0" in his profile.
"I'm disbanding my sect, but I'm not going to give you your money back because I need it to party in Mexico, so you can all go to hell," one tweet read.
Navalny is a graft-fighting lawyer and popular blogger who has tapped into Russians' anger over the corruption that pervades public life. After he described President Vladimir Putin's political party as the "party of crooks and thieves," the catchphrase stuck.
Navalny has solicited donations to support the work of his website and a team of lawyers who study government tenders for evidence of corruption. He claims the government has withdrawn scandalous tenders for various goods and services worth millions of dollars after they were exposed by his site.
The 36-year-old opposition leader has been at the forefront of major anti-Putin protests in recent months. His home and office were raided and he was interrogated several times as part of a probe into violence at a May 6 opposition rally.
Navalny linked the hackings to his personal computer and iPad being seized by police in a raid on his apartment on June 11. In a Facebook message verified by The Associated Press, he wrote he was "sure that the hacking was performed with the help of seized hardware" and pledged to demand that the hackers be found and charged.
But government investigators on Tuesday brushed off Navalny's accusations of being instrumental in the hacking.
Faced with a choice of unfollowing the opposition leader or putting up with a flood of abusive tweets, Navalny's followers seem to be opting for the former. Their number dwindled from more than 258,000 early Tuesday morning to fewer than 254,000 late afternoon Moscow time.
The hacking of Navalny's account follows the lawyer's election to the board of directors of Russia's largest airline, Aeroflot, on Monday.
Navalny was nominated by tycoon Alexander Lebedev, whose holdings include 15 percent of Aeroflot. Navalny's nomination was also supported by proxy advisory firms who work for minority shareholders.
Navalny first made his name a few years ago by using his rights as a minority shareholder to gather evidence of corruption at state-controlled oil and gas companies and banks. Cases he filed against some of the biggest names in Russian business have made little progress in court, but he exposed some seemingly outrageous practices.

Nintendo's new 3DS XL was just revealed last week, but we didn't have to wait long for the plus-sized handheld to get put through its paces. Puissance Nintendo got its game on with Nintendo's newest, and if Google's translation is to be believed, the added screen real-estate is, naturally, a welcome addition, and the panel is plenty bright with excellent viewing angles. Also, any negative effects from the bigger pixels present in the display -- it's the same resolution as its baby brother -- have apparently been ameliorated by an anti-aliasing filter of some sort. As for folks concerned about gripping the 3DS XL, fear not, as ergonomics are reportedly spot on, with an even weight distribution that feels no heavier than a standard 3DS. Still not ready to rush out and grab one this August? Head on past the break to see the XL in action, and pop on over to the source link to see if the full French spill will persuade you.

LONDON (AP) ? London's sprawling Olympic Park comes with a supersized McDonald's.
The fast-food giant says its flagship restaurant at the park will be its biggest, busiest and most sustainable, with three-quarters of the furniture and fittings set to be reused after the games.
But despite complaints by British doctors, the food choices will largely be the same as McDonald's fare around the world.
McDonald's is the sole restaurant allowed to sell brand-name food at the London Games. It will run four outlets at the venue, including a flagship that seats 1,500 people. It expects to serve up to 14,000 people a day.
The Academy of Royal Medical Colleges recently said having McDonald's sponsor the Olympics sends the wrong message in Britain, which is battling increasing obesity.

At the same time, occasionally you want to watch a video or listen to music on your iPhone and all you really have is the tiny built-in speaker. Maybe you don't have headphones, or maybe they aren't applicable at the moment in time you want to play something.

Abstract
BACKGROUND:
The risk factors of underutilization of childhood vaccines in populations with high access to health services are not fully understood.
OBJECTIVES:
To determine vaccination coverage and factors associated with underutilization of childhood vaccines in a population with sub-optimal vaccination compliance, despite a high health care access.
METHODS:
The study was conducted among 430 children from ultraorthodox Jewish communities in the Bnei Brak city and Jerusalem district. Data on immunization status, socio-demographic factors and on parents' attitudes regarding vaccines were obtained from medical records and through parents' interviews.
RESULTS:
The proportion of fully vaccinated children was 65% in 2- to 5-year-old ultraorthodox children from Jerusalem district, and 86% in 2.5-year-old children from Bnei Brak city. The factors that were significantly associated with vaccines underutilization in Bnei Brak were having >6 siblings, maternal academic education, parental religious beliefs against vaccination, perceived risk of vaccine preventable diseases as low, and mistrust in the Ministry of Health (MOH). Similarly, in Jerusalem, religious beliefs against vaccination, and the perceived low risk of vaccine preventable diseases significantly increased the likelihood of under-immunization, while having a complementary health insurance was inversely related with vaccines underutilization.
CONCLUSIONS:
The risk factors of under-immunization are in part modifiable, by means of health education on the risks of vaccine preventable diseases and by improving the trust in the MOH. The leaders of the ultraorthodox communities could play an important role in such interventions.

FURNESS College governors have approved plans to build a ?2.5m sports hall as the final part of the college?s ?43m revamp.
Title Author Copyright
Description
By Nicola Park
The sports hall will be developed in partnership with Cumbria Cricket Ltd and England and Wales Cricket Board and will act as the hub for the development of cricket in this area.
The Channelside college has described the plan as an opportunity to provide local cricketers with the best facilities ?this side of Old Trafford?.
The facilities will boast upgraded lighting and flooring and have the latest high definition video analysis equipment.
Bob Simpson, director of cricket for Cumbria Cricket Ltd said: ?This is the start of a new partnership with Furness College and we are delighted to be getting such a superb cricket facility in Barrow.
?We look forward to developing the sport both at representative level and through community use by a wide range of local players and those new to the game.
?Cricket should also benefit from all of the resources available at the new college campus including sport science, volunteer workforce training and through construction students helping clubs to maintain and develop their facilities.?
For the majority of the time the sports hall will be available to college students for curriculum, sporting and personal use.
But the college has proposed that all of the new sport facilities, including a gym and third generation pitch, will be opened up for community use by clubs, groups and members of the public at evenings and weekends.
The college will spend ?750,000 on the new pitch, in addition to the ?2.5m it is spending on the sports hall.
Mark Nicholson, deputy principal for curriculum and quality at the college said Cumbria Cricket Ltd and England and Wales Cricket Board are making a ?substantial? contribution towards the cost of the project. Mr Nicholson added: ?The new sports hall has been high on our list of priorities since we left the Howard Street site in 2000.
?The new facilities will allow the college to develop its approach to sport, fitness and health for learners and members of the public.
?The cricket specialist nature of the new hall will allow continuous development of the sport within South Cumbria, as well as providing a top class resource for a wide range of sports.?
The work is set to be carried out by Eric Wright Construction, and is due to begin at the end of July. It is set to be finished by May next year.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Congrats to the BCS commissioners. They have undoubtedly helped college football by reaching a consensus on a four-team playoff model.
Now what about the players?
How will this new playoff money help the people actually sacrificing their bodies each fall Saturday to entertain us?
The National College Players Association is working on a proposal focused on head trauma that could be rolled out as soon as next week, when the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee meets. The goal: Make sure a playoff and minimizing health risks become joined at the hip.
Jon Solomon is a columnist for The Birmingham News. Join him for live web chats on college sports on Wednesdays at 2 p.m.
"Nobody has ever asked what the players think should be done," said NCPA President Ramogi Huma, a former UCLA football player. "It's their health. We're talking about additional games for some of the best teams in the nation. That's additional risk."
A decade ago, many teams could win the national championship by playing 12 games. With a playoff, becoming national champ will climb to 15 games for most teams, a 25-percent increase.
Among the topics the NCPA's proposal will address is how much year-round contact there should be. Bowl practices are already treated as strenuously as spring football, said Huma, who worries playoffs will take that up another notch.
The NFL put new limits in place last season: 14 practices in full pads during the regular season (11 of which must occur in the first 11 weeks) and reducing offseason team programs from 14 weeks to nine. The players union hopes to reduce exposure to practice-field blows to the head by 20 to 25 percent.
The Ivy League recently started limiting full-contact football practices to twice a week, a 60 percent reduction from NCAA rules.
"You can still have a great sport with less contact," said Huma, whose NCPA players council includes current or former football players at Arizona, UCLA, Kentucky, Georgia, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Purdue. "This is why the players need a voice. It's embarrassing and unacceptable that conference commissioners and presidents aren't discussing guaranteed health care for sports-related injuries."
The SEC recently announced plans to study concussions in all sports. The Big Ten will collaborate with the Ivy League to evaluate head trauma among athletes when they arrive on campus, during their playing careers and after they're finished playing.
There's no data yet on the potential long-term health risks for college players who suffer concussions yet never reach the NFL. That makes it difficult for the NCPA to propose a specific dollar amount earmarked from playoff money toward players' health.
"Just because the revenue might not be enough to cover a nation of former football players doesn't mean there shouldn't be an effort to meet a small demand," Huma said. "At the very least, there should be a support system for players if they exhibit symptoms like depression or memory loss so they can be assessed."
Huma points to the 2010 suicide of Penn football player Owen Thomas. Thomas' brain tissue showed early stages of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a disease linked to depression and impulse control that has been found among NFL players.
Boston University researchers cautioned that Thomas' suicide shouldn't be attributed solely or primarily to his brain damage, given the frequency of suicide among college students in general. But they raised the possibility that it played a role in his death, meaning CTE in football players could develop as early as college.
Huma doesn't expect perfection in these conference studies, just effort. However, he is concerned whether players can trust what universities produce from their research.
Until 2009, the NFL and its committee on concussions consistently minimized evidence testifying to the risks of repeated brain trauma in NFL players. Universities are equipped to do great research, but could face similar conflicts of interest.
"If it were to be found that colleges are sponsoring sports that put participants at significant long-term health risks, would the schools view that as a liability or take steps to minimize it?" Huma asked. "There might be an opportunity for third-party oversight from people doing great work in this area, like the Boston researchers."
Talks will heat up soon on how to distribute an awful lot of playoff money. Now's the time for college football to remember the players.

From the mouths of monkeys: Swab technique spots tuberculosis in non-human primatesPublic release date: 21-Jun-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]

TB infections, a serious threat to monkeys and apes, previously had been difficult to detect
Tuberculosis can be a serious threat to monkeys and apes. A new technique for detecting the tuberculosis-causing bacteria could help in protecting the health of primate populations.
The method can spot TB even among infected primates that show no outward sign of disease, but are still capable of spreading infection to others of their kind.
Existing tests for TB in primates are difficult to apply and give unreliable results, often failing to detect infections.
With the new approach, researchers obtained the first published evidence of TB pathogens in the mouths of Asian monkeys living near people.
The study appears in the latest issue of the American Journal of Primatology. Dr. Lisa Jones-Engel, a senior research scientist at the National Primate Research Center at the University of Washington, headed the international project.
Her team worked in six Asian countries and the Rock of Gibraltar, places where people come into frequent contact with macaques.
The monkeys are kept as pets, or live in temples, range freely throughout urban neighborhoods, reside in nature parks or zoos, or perform as entertainers.
The researchers took cheek swabs or tossed the monkeys tasty chew sticks to obtain samples from the oral cavity, as TB usually enters and exits the body through the mouth and nose.
The scientists then analyzed the specimens to look for DNA from tuberculosis bacteria.
They applied a test designed by UW National Primate Research Center Alicia Wilbur and her colleagues, who study the origin and evolution of infectious disease.
Their test amplifies a small segment of DNA known as IS6110 that exists only in certain species of mycobacteria, the causative agents of TB.
Tuberculosis DNA was found among the Asian monkey populations living in areas with high levels of human TB, but not in the Gibraltar macaques. TB prevalence in humans is relatively low in Gibraltar.
About 32 percent of the Asian monkeys studied had evidence of TB DNA.
The results, said Dr. Gregory Engel, a Seattle physician and epidemiologist for the study, raise questions about inter-species transmission.
The tuberculosis bacteria responsible for most cases of human infection originated about 3 million years ago. TB now affects about 2 billion people in the world.
It's not yet determined whether TB organisms evolved separately in human and non-human primates, or if there were repeated crossovers.
The researchers hope that advances in DNA analysis might reveal the strain of TB present in an individual or a primate population.
The new detection technique for TB DNA in primates also holds promise for better understanding transmission patterns of the disease.
"TB is an exceptionally challenging disease to control," Engel said, "as infected individuals may carry the bacteria in an inactive state, and disease reactivation can occur, especially if the animal is stressed."
A key issue right now among scientists is primate-to-primate spread of TB.
For example, primates that live around humans could conceivably become infected with TB, then come into contact with wild primates, and pass along the pathogen.
This is a particular concern for conservationists trying to prevent the loss of endangered primate species. Zoos and primate centers also strive to prevent the introduction or spread of TB into their colonies for the safety and well-being of the animals, and for the integrity of research which uses primates to study health and disease.
As for human worries about acquiring TB from non-human primates, Engel said, "People are far more likely to acquire TB from other people than they are from monkeys."
Most people living among the macaques or tourists visiting the area do not have the kinds of close face-to face or nose-to-nose interactions that would put them at risk.

The project, "From the Mouths of Monkeys: Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex DNA from Buccal Swabs of Synanthropic Macaques" was funded with grants from the National Institutes of Health's National Center for Research Resources and the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Chicago Zoological Society and the University of New Mexico Research Allocations Committee.
The researchers were assisted by the communities, temple committees, nature reserves, universities, and government agencies in the study locations.
In addition to Lisa Jones-Engel, Gregory Engel, Alicia Wilbur and Gunwha Oh, all of the Evolutionary Emergence of Infectious Diseases Laboratory at the UW National Primate Research Center, the researchers on the study were Aida Rompis and I.G.A. A Putra, both of the University of Udayana, Bali, Indonesia; Benjamin P. Y. -H. Lee of Nature Parks, National Parks Board, Singapore; Nantiya Aggimarangsee of Chiang Mai University, Thailand; Mukesh Chalise of Tribhuvan University, Nepal; Eric Shaw of the Gibraltar Ornithological and Natural History Society; and Michael A. Schillaci of the University of Toronto-Scarborough Toronto, Canada.
